A visit to Tokara on the crest of the Helshoogte pass is a feast for all the senses. The manor house was restored and the first wines under the Thelema label were released in 1988. By the mid 90’s Thelema’s wines sold out within a month after release, making it one of the most sought-after wine estates in South Africa. Stark-Condé is a premium Cabernet producer located in the picturesque Jonkershoek Valley in Stellenbosch. Wine tastings are conducted in an intimate, unique venue surrounded by 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains.Light meals are served at the ever popular Postcard Cafe, which has been a local favourite for years. The cafe serves Stark-Condé wines at cellardoor prices.
Spier is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, with a recorded history dating back to 1692. At Spier, there is plenty to delight the entire family. The farm derives its charming name from the legendary colony of tortoises that was found in the vlei in the 1800’s. The beautiful piece of land was dubbed Skilpadvlei and has been in the hands of the Joubert family since 1917. Today, fourth generation Willie Joubert upholds the proud family tradition of harnessing the rich potential of the land with a dedicated commitment to quality. Skilpadvlei is a fully operational 78ha farm.
“There’s history behind the Vine” Dad Wally had been raised on the next-door spread below Helderberg & after marrying the girl-next-door, he bought Die Fonteine (Fountains) farm, being well aware of the quality of the property’s grape-friendly soils and favoured situation just a cool breeze from the Atlantic Ocean.
