Kaapzicht wine estate in Bottelary, Stellenbosch dates back to 1946 when Major David Steytler finished fighting WW2 and left his Karoo sheep farming days for the beautiful hills of Bottelary. Through the years, this farm was home to tobacco, wheat, vegetables, a dairy and finally vines. Fast forward to 2022, having dedicated a combined 7 decades to Kaapzicht, Danie Snr retires and hands over the reigns to Danie Jnr and Carin, the fourth generation of Steytlers. This unassuming and lovely estate has an array of wines, coming from ancient granite soils. The focus varietals are Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage, and they even have the second oldest Chenin Blanc vineyard in south Africa, planted in 1947. Lovely seating outside offered on a Sunny day, while the cozy fireplace is ideal for the cold Winter weather. No restaurant, but they do offer a cheese board to snack on. A lovely play area, trees to climb on and grass to tumble on for the kids. All in all, a happy place to relax and enjoy a glass of wine.
