Since 1694 Rust en Vrede has stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch. At various times over the centuries wine was produced, but the modern era of winemaking only really started with Jannie and Ellen Engelbrecht in the 1970s. Since then, we have specialised in Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and our Estate has evolved to include a renowned fine-dining restaurant and tasting room, so that the food and wine experience has become inseparable form the Rust en Vrede experience. Jean Engelbrecht, son of Jannie and Ellen, still calls Rust en Vrede home, and continues to work closely with a dedicated team at Rust en Vrede to oversee the growth of the Estate. Under his custodianship, the wines have excelled to become the best expression of Rust en Vrede’s terroir, sense of place, and character.
