Morgenster Estate is a family-owned & family-run estate in the heart of the Helderberg; producing award-winning Bordeaux-Style wines, small pockets of Italian varieties and extra virgin olive oils.
In 1992, our late founder Giulio Bertrand bought Morgenster, one of the jewels of the Cape. His first step was to restore the Manor House. He then turned his attention to the hill in his backyard which reminded him strongly of his native home in Italy. With a lifelong philosophy of producing only the best, Giulio sought advice from experts, took a systematic approach and thoroughly assessed Morgenster’s terroir.
The farm is predominately planted with Italian olive varieties and has always focused on Bordeaux grape varietals, which make up the bulk of the vineyards. However, later in the years, specially selected sites on the farm were planted with small pockets of Italian varieties.
Amongst undulating hills and valleys of decomposed shale, unspoiled nature stitches into hectares of vineyards and olives trees. This terroir is the unique DNA of Morgenster; benefiting from a micro-climate with much cooler weather influenced by the close proximity of the ocean. A total of 70 ha of the 200 ha estate is under vine and olive groves, the rest is left to the mountains and the wetlands and home to a wide variety of birds, Cape Fauna and Wildlife.
