The story of Lothian Vineyards began with a search for the perfect place to grow wine. The Wilson family has been involved in winemaking in the Cape for three generations and was determined to create wines of the highest distinction. But, in order to do this, the terroir had to be faultless.
The Wilsons had already recognised the potential of the Elgin Valley to become a world-class wine region, and their long search ended when they found the exceptional property on the Palmiet River.
Lothian Vineyards is now proud to present a range of Cape wines of uncompromising quality and integrity. Lothian’s Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and dry Riesling are grown in ideal conditions, thanks to a cool climate created by mountain shadows, south-facing vineyards, and breezes from the river and nearby ocean.
Lothian’s approach to winemaking is to create the best possible wine from these grapes. The fruit is handpicked in the early morning and delivered to their own winery on the estate. Winemaking under Richard Kershaw MW and Dudley Wilson is as non-interventionist as possible. Every bottle of Lothian wine is an opportunity to celebrate the unique terroir from which it was crafted.
Lothian Vineyards lies at the entrance to the Elgin Valley in the wild Kogelberg Reserve – one of the planet’s most diverse biospheres.
