Lammershoek in the heart of the picturesque Paardeberg winegrowing area, is a quite undiscovered gem of scenic beauty. A stone’s throw away from the bustling city of Cape Town, this is a tranquil haven of breathing space close to nature with unbeatable views that speak to the soul. With the underlying philosophy of living close to nature for more than three centuries on this farm, exceptional quality grapes are produced in harmony with the rich animal and birdlife which thrive on large tracts of natural vegetation preserved by pioneering farming families over the years. The visitor will find the cellar complex on an undulating gravel road, nestling against one of the area’s typical rolling hills, with mesmerising views of vineyards, green fields, rich fynbos vegetation and cattle pastures – all to the backdrop of spectacular mountains and living proof that in this picturesque, protective haven the fauna and flora are respected and cherished as part of the interactive whole. It is today a place of discovery and vinous delight – driven by the visions of co-owner Andreas Abold and wife, Sonja, who recently immigrated to the Cape from Germany, with the following vision: Maintaining family values and the accompanying intimacy with nature and sustainable farming. All in the spirit of modesty and being down-to-earth and authentic. Because our vines are very old and rooted deeply into the soil, we get concentrated taste in very small berries. We get all the flavours into the vines from the granite soils, the fynbos vegetation, the salt from the wind from the sea – so the nature, the sun and everything that surround us; this is what makes the Lammershoek wines so very special and the quality exceptional.
