Laibach, the Simonsberg estate that was purchased by neighbouring Kanonkop in April 2022, will in future be known as Ladybird Vineyards.
The picturesque Ladybird Vineyards are flanked by the renowned vineyards of Kanonkop, Warwick, Marklew and Lievland.
Ultimately, our wine quality is forever linked to the land where our grapes are grown. Site selection is essential in the making of fine wines, because flavour starts in the vineyards. At the beginning of this century we started to convert our vineyards gradually to organic farming. The question of agricultural sustainability may not be fully answered with organic farming practices, but it’s a great start.
We see ourselves as traditionalists. We make wine with minimal intervention to show what the special Simonsberg-Stellenbosch deep red soils (Clovelly and Glenrosa) can produce. On the whole farm we use very little irrigation and we rely on our deep clay soil to keep the roots cool and happy. Ladybird Vineyards is located in the famous red wine producing area of Simonsberg – Stellenbosch. It is well known for producing ‘’The Ladybird’’, the first organic red wine from the Simonsberg ward in Stellenbosch made from organically grown grapes, and certified by Ecocert, the global leader in verification testing and certification services. This wine is a unique individual expression of organically grown from and the art of our winemakers, expressing the fruit and intensity of varietal character at its best.
We are committed to producing wines of outstanding quality, that best reflect the unique terroir and the microclimate of the Simonsberg, one of South Africa’s prime wine-growing areas for noble red cultivars.
