Hamilton Russell Vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley is one of the oldest estates in this area. The cool maritime climate is ideal for terroir driven Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that thrive on the 52 hectares of ancient stony, clay and iron-rich shale derived soil. They are internationally recognised and export to over 50 countries.
The tasting room is a pretty historic cottage that sits aside a beautiful big dam with peaceful views of surrounding pine forests. There is an outside section but minimal space inside. The tasting is very simple with 3 wines to try, namely their Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Ashbourne white blend. There is no food, platters or other beverages available.
