Eikehof Wine Estate is a family-owned winery, surrounded by majestically old oak trees and part of the Tram line on the R45 in Franschhoek. Eikehof has 23 hectares of land, with both vines and peach orchards on. They have 6 varietals, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. In fact, the farm has the oldest block of Semillon bush vines in South Africa, dating back to 1902! The inside tasting area is made up of gorgeously carved wooden tables, with spacious arrangements. On a sunny day, the outside area is shaded over by huge oak trees providing a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere, with pretty views. There are four tastings available, as well as a Cape Ruby tasting, fondly named Grandpa’s 1942 Ford. Made in a ‘port-style’ from Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and fortified to 18% alc. Cheese and charcuterie platters are available. Eikehof is child friendly with lots of acorns to collect and grass to play on.
