The Diemersdal Wine Estate is a sixth-generation family-owned wine estate in Durbanville which falls within South Africa’s Cape Town Wine of Origin district.
The history of viticulture and winemaking on Diemersdal goes back to 1698 and the estate has been synonymous with the history of the South African wine industry. Sauvignon Blanc has been the focus for the past two decades and Diemersdal currently makes six different styles under our own label. These wines vary from entry-level, fresh young wines to Sauvignon Blancs that have been skin-fermented and matured in barrel.
Having done meticulous research on the variety, we have come to the conclusion that Durbanville and Cape Town is capable of producing some of the finest Sauvignon Blancs in the world due to the unique terroir that gives the wines flavours and structure that are totally unique and driven by our geographical elements.
Diemersdal’s point of differentiation to Sauvignon Blanc wines made in other parts of South Africa is our belief in dryland viticulture. Unlike the bulk of the South African vineyard, we do not have any irrigation in our 200ha of vineyards, believing that true terroir-expression can only be achieved through leaving the vine and the natural conditions to their own devices.
Diemersdal’s reputation for expressive, stylistically pure wines and our annual array of awards – to our mind – vindicate this.
