The Van Der Merwe family, 7th generation family vintners, have been growing grapes and making wine in the Breedekloof wine region since 1844. Their history steeps deep into these ancient floodplains and they have become pioneers in their field. The generational love shared for grape growing by cousins Schalk and Pierre have led to Merwida Winery becoming a hugely successful company. The opening of Huis Te Merwede is a tribute to this success.
Huis Te Merwede is one of the two original Merwida homesteads, built in the early 1970’s. The newly renovated homestead will house a tasting room, Cecile’s Tea Room and conference facility. It will also be available for small functions and intimate gatherings.
